Our Story: A Meeting of Minds
E-Reo was born from a meeting of two passionate individuals, Heiura Itae-Tetaa and Sebastien Christian. Heiura, a native of Tahiti, had a deep desire to preserve her native language, Tahitian. She realized that language is not just a means of communication but a vital part of our identity and heritage. Yet, like many indigenous languages, Tahitian was at risk of fading away.
Sebastien, with his background in linguistics, software platform development, and AI, shared Heiura's vision. He understood the power of technology to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity. Together, they set out on a mission to create a platform that would empower not only Tahitian speakers but indigenous communities worldwide.
Our Name: E-Reo
In certain Polynesian languages, "reo" means "language." For instance, speakers of the Tahitian language refer to it as "Te Reo Tahiti" (the language of Tahiti), while our Polynesian counterparts in New Zealand call their language "Te Reo Māori." "E reo," on the other hand, translates to "This is a language." We also incorporate the "e" to represent "electronic," as seen in e-mail, signifying our development of digital tools and e-learning solutions.
